Like so many families I find myself researching, this is not my family, but ties into families that marry into mine, & don't claim to be any authority on the Wallaces.
In trying to sort out some problems, I've briefly looked at the families of Toliver & Harbird B. Wallace in the Marietta, Cobb Co. area, one of them being Wade Hill Wallace, Sr., 1843-1921.
There was an article written about Wade's father, Toliver Wallace & this whole line, entitled: "A Sketch of the Toliver Wallace and Nancy Dycus Family, Rutherford County, NC and Cobb County, GA", by Blance M. Wallace, which appeared in the Cobb Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol 17, Jan-Dec 2007.
I have referred to it for some of my data.
In her article, she refers to another work which I haven't read yet, entitled "The Wallaces -Six Generations, Marietta, Georgia 1844-2003", by Harry L. Wallace, who was a great-grandson of Wade Hill Wallace, Harry's father being Harold E. Wallace.
Perhaps I should have read his work before penning these notes.
What I've pieced together about Wade Hill Wallace, Sr. is:
1st wife Martha L. "Mattie" Dobbins, b abt 1847, d betw 1870-71. Married Jan 5, 1866 Rutherford Co.,NC. I only know 1 child from this marriage, but there may well be others:
Robert S. Wallace, b abt 1869
Wade's 2nd wife is said to be "Mary or Molly" Covington, they married Jan 19, 1871 Cobb Co.,GA.
The only such Covington girl I know that fits this description is Mary M. Covington, b abt 1850 Rutherford Co.,NC. Circumstance say she died betw 1878-1881 Cobb Co.
Mary was the daughter of James Matthew Covington, b abt 1817 NC, d aft 1880 Cobb Co. & wife Eveline/Evelyn Unk, b abt 1827 NC, d aft 1880 Cobb Co., they married abt 1844 Rutherford Co.,NC.
Children I have deduced from this marriage (may be others):
James W. Wallace, b Nov 1871, Cobb Co. d Apr 6, 1951 Cobb Co.
Wade H. Wallace, Jr., b Feb 1876, d Mar 4, 1954 Cobb Co.
Ruben Wallace, b May 1878
Wade's 3rd wife was Elizbeth Herring, b Oct 6, 1865, d Jul 22, 1956 Cobb Co. They married Oct 6, 1881.
The children I know from this marriage are:
Susan M. Wallace, b Jul 1882
John B. Wallace, b Mar 1887
Katie Wallace, b Dec 1890
George W. Wallace, b Jul 26, 1893
Mary Belle "Mamie" Wallace, b Oct 26, 1895
I'll briefly mention a couple of Wade's children, since it's not my purpose to analyse this family in detail here.
James W. Wallace, b 1871 married Lottie L. Reid, b Apr 1873 GA. They married abt 1892. Children I know:
Harold E. Wallace, b Jun 14, 1903, d Nov 22, 1972 Cobb Co.
He married Dot Wright.
Harold B. "Harry" Wallace, b Jun 14, 1903, d Jul 2, 1978 Columbus, Muscogee Co.,GA. He married Gaynell Unk, b abt 1905.
Mary L. Wallace, b Oct 1893
Alva Mayford Wallace, b Jan 1896
Roy Wallace, b Jan 1900
James C. "Jim" Wallace, b abt 1901
Wade H. Wallace, Jr., b 1876 married Jewel Bell, b abt 1888 TX, they married abt 1906 Dallas?,TX. Known children:
Lucile Wallace, b abt 1907 TX
Howard Wallace, b abt 1908 TX
Byron O. or Byron Calvin Wallace, b abt 1909 TX
Wade Jr. came back to Marietta from Texas & found in Marietta on later census, bringing the children with him.
From Wade's 3rd marriage, son George W. Wallace, b 1893 married 1st, on Apr 26, 1914 Cobb Co. to Mattie Lou Clackum, b abt 1900, d 1922 Cobb Co. One child:
Clifford Wallace, b abt 1915. He went by name Clifford Clackum because raised by Mattie's family. Mattie also had another son, perhaps by another father:
Grady Clackum, b abt 1917. He went by name of Grady Gibson.
George W. Wallace married 2nd, on Jul 14, 1934 Cobb Co. to Annie L. Scoggins, b Jan 20, 1900 Cobb Co. She is buried in the same plot as George.
Some have speculated that this Annie in the cemetery was perhaps a sister of George, but I don't believe that to be the case.
Annie Scoggins was the daughter of Robert Alexander "Bob" Scoggins, 1869-1934, & his 1st wife, Senora Lee "Nora" Coker, 1866-1918. These are both well-known Marietta families.
I haven't looked to see if George & Annie had children or not.
