Culbreth B Wall's death cert also lists his parents as George McCain and Moriah Wall. The informants were Lionel Wall of Lexington, NC and Mrs Glady M Gray of Butner, NC. He died in John Umstead Hosp, Butner, Granville Co of heart failure following major surgery for carcinoma pancreas. He was buried at Holloway's Church in Davidson Co. It states he was born in Davidson Co and his usual residence was Rt 7, Lexington. He was widowed but no info as to his wife. The 1930 census lists him in Healing Springs with wife Josie and children Paul, Charles, and Lionel. Josephine Wall's death cert gives b 7 Jan 1888, d 1 May 1932 in Healing Springs. It lists her husband as Culbreth B Wall, her father as Sandy Gallimore, and her mother as Low Hedrick. This probably should have been Lou Hedrick. The overview of the d cert was linked to the wrong graphic, so I couldn't check the original. The 1900 census lists Alexander Gallimore, wife Louisia, and several children including Josaphene age 12.
The 1900 census lists Hanna M Wall age 54, single, 1 child born, 1 child living, in the home of Henry Cross 69 (mar 30 yrs) and wife Dumos 65 (mar 30 yrs). Hanna is labeled as Henry's step-dau and Culbert age 19 is listed as Henry's grandson. There may be a J after Henry's name - it's written over and unclear. Henry is listed just before James Roby Floyd, so this would have been very near Floyd Church.
In 1870 Henry Cross was listed in Jackson Springs Twp.
Henry Cross 40
Doomus Cross 49
Ronda Cross 10
Angelina Cross 8
Hannah Cross 24
Hanna M Walls 61 (single) was listed as stepdau of Henry J Cross 81 again in 1910 Healing Springs. Henry was widowed.
However, in 1850 and 1860 Hannah/Mariah was living with Jacob Cross. See post 4082 this forum. Jacob was 51 in 1850 and 62 in 1860, so Henry and Jacob can't be the same person. Since Henry and Dumas had been married only 30 yrs in 1900, it's quite possible either or both were previously married. Could Dumas/Doomus age 49 in 1870 and 65 in 1900 be the same as Unitz Wall age 23 in 1850?
If all this isn't confusing enough, this would appear to be Hannah Maria again in 1860 Silver Hill. The family is listed on the same page with Bazil Floyd, father of James Roby Floyd, so again this would be near Floyd Church.
Giles Cross 30
Dumas Cross 36
Hannah M Cross 12
Clauda J Cross 2
Is Giles the same as Henry J Cross? I couldn't find Henry in 1860. The 1900 census indicates Henry and Dumas didn't marry until about 1870. If that's correct, Giles and Henry probably aren't the same.
Hannah Maria seems to have been listed twice in 1860 - once in the home of Jacob Cross and again in the home of Giles Cross. Unitz Wall from the 1850 census is gone from Jacob Cross's home in 1860. So is she the same as Dumas, wife of Giles Cross and apparently later the wife of Henry Cross? If so, that might explain why Hannah Maria was listed in both households.
