Walkden Family Genealogy Forum

Hello Dorothy.
After I posted my reply to yours, I reread the bits about the Walkden family from the "South Beach Pioneers". Extra information about Richard and his wife Mary: They were living on their 129 acres at Pakenham (near Melbourne)in 1863, when it is assumed Fred and his infant daughter came to live with them (his first wife having died in childbirth). Later that year Richard and Mary, in partnership with two other sons John Venn and Richard Cecil, sold that land and bought 20 acres at Footscray. They then sold that in 1869, and moved to Geelong. Their daughter was married from there in 1873.
The next mention of Richard is of his burial in 1880 at Greta (near Wangaratta) - the undertaker being Patrick Quinn who happened to be Ned Kelly's maternal uncle. Fred Walkden was schoolmaster there for a number of years.
Regards,
Laurel
