Hi Debra
I am delighted to contact you, Dorothy and Laurel. Together I think we may be able to piece together this family- Some crucial pieces have eluded me for some time and I think they lie scattered across the lines and not just our line. I have always believed the Walkden story needed all the families to get their stories together as family members got scattered all over Australia.
John Venn
I have cerifs for John Venn Walkden's mariage and his death (and Emily Mary's marriage and her death which you probably already have)
How can I get copies to you?
They married 2 March 1874 at St George's Church Malvern. John's half sister, Mary Ann Stephen and her husband Wm Ravenscroft Stephen were witnesses.
Emma (born Norfolk)had married Frederick Stanley (born Adelaide)in 1869.
Frederick Stanley died 22 Sept 1873 aged 24 parents unknown.
They had a son Frederick John born 1869 in Geelong.. .
John was born 11 August 1835 at Pinner Park England- (named Venn after Rev Venn the encumbant at Pinner Church who was a great friend of the family.)
John's death certif is very interesting as it declares he had no issue. He died of Bright's Disease and the informant was an authorised agent.A good friend of the family, Samuel Dougan Bird was his physician and signed the certif as his medical attendant.
John had spent 2 years in NSW (the Walkden family was at Tumut) and the remaining years in Vic.
He was listed at:
Essex St Footscray 1865
Caulfield 1874 (Education Dept - clerk I think)
5 Dickens St Sth Carlton 1875
Canning St Carlton 1878-80
He died at Canning St 1888.
John Venn was the second child of Richard Walkden and Mary Stephen Dougan aand the 5th child of Richard.
