Rather more lightly to have fled Wales from the persecution of being a 1st language Welsh speaker and non-conformist or a member of the “antidisestablishmenteranism” movement than for any membership of the R.C. faith in Wales, which if my understanding is correct where so few in number at the time of your interest, as to have been totally ignored rather than persecuted.
But you may well know better.
