Afternoon Lyndall

According to the 1900 US Census on the LDS Family Search site, Alexander Crighton was born in April 1840 Scotland; and was a Cattle Buyer.

If that information is (reasonably) correct, it helps narrow down but not positively the Search Results on Scotland's People, the official and most comprehensive site for Scottish BMDs.

Unfortunately that is back in the Old Parish Register era (pre-1855); and less than 40% of Births were recorded back then, making tracing back difficult in many cases.

Also being aged about 42 when he married Margaret Moore aged about 20, suggests that he MAY or may NOT have been married previously, either in Scotland or USA.

Ithink you should try to obtain a full copy of that 1882 Marriage Record from the Mississip State Archives or such-like. It may even be the Sheriff's Office in Chickasaw.
