Sorry, you won't want to hear this but however difficult it is to find the marriage over there, trying to find a birth, baptism, or 1841 census record for such common names here will be impossible. Without parents names (or possibly a place) it will be impossible to know whether we have identified the right one.
For example, IGI lists 138 Elizabeth Evans baptised in Wales in 1837. That's without considering 1836 and 1838 as well. And IGI is not itself a complete record of all parishes and chapels, of course.
David Powell was a less common name than I expected: IGI lists 19 David Powells baptised in 1834. But even if you look at each one of those, you have nothing else to identify which (if any) is the right one.
So sorry, you need to leave no stone unturned over in the States - marriage registration, all census data, obituaries etc. ...
