Hi Alex, thanks for your help.

Its quite confusing to trace William Smith because i know next to nothing about his son, my great grandfather Ernest Ebenezer Smith, only that he married my great grandma Mary Richards in 1908 in Ystradgynlais, Wales when he was aged 30.
(that marriage certificate gave his father's name as William Smith(roadman).)
My family had never known his father's name before that.

I DONT HAVE ANY OTHER INFO ABOUT HIM BEFORE THE YEAR 1908.
His first 30 years is a mystery to us.
ALTHOUGH I HAVE JUST FOUND OUT FROM 1911 WALES CENSUS THAT HE WAS FROM ERIDGE, SUSSEX - which confirmed my family's guesses that he WAS from Sussex. (Eridge seems to be a farming community?).

So I guess I must start the search there??
