I am researching my family and have logged in here to see if anyone else has links to Devon (Salcombe) or Wales (Cardiff) My mother was a Goodyear, Jean Olwen. Her father who was born in Salcombe, Devon was William Henry Goodyear who had a brother, Jack and sisters Linda and Caroline. I am old enough to have known all of these family members, all of whom are now dead. Family gossip says that the family were Devonians and sailed a windjammer around to Cardiff docks to take advantage of the coal carrying trade. Whether there is any truth in this is a matter for conjecture. My grandfather William Henry Goodyear was a cabinet maker and I understand worked on the refurbishment of Cardiff Castle before the second world war. He lived in Llandough which was then a village situated between Cardiff and Barry. I was born in Llandough as was my sister. My Great Uncle, Jack Goodyear lived in Cold Knap, Barry with his daughter Thurza Goodyear, where my family spent several very happy holidays, having moved from Wales for my father's work. Linda married a Davies and had no children. Caroline also married a Davies and had one daughter, Ethel who apparantly married, a Goodyear a distant cousin. They had a daughter, Patricia who married a lovely Irish RAF chap called Jimmy McKay they had two children Neil and Elizabeth. Pat still lives in Cardiff and Neil and Elizabeth(the latter has two children) also still live in the area. Anyone out there who has any information, please get in touch! You never know we might be related. Notify Administrator about this message?
