A majority (if not all) of the Waldrep's are descendents of Davidson Green Waldrep (only one of five brothers who spelled their last name with "e" instead of Waldrop). I have lots of Waldrep/Waldrop info.Email me your lineage and I'll see if we can connect you to Michael Waldrop.
Waldrop goes back to Michael Waldrop who came to America in the 1600's.I copied the following from another family tree - but didn't copy the source:
The Waldrop family is of Scottish origin, tracing from Fifeshire, Midlothian (Edinburgh) and Glasgow. The name was derived from the office of Keeper of the Royal Wardrobe which included articles of clothing, furniture not in active use, rare imported spices, and other articles deemed valuable by the royal family. The name has appeared in many variations, including deWarderob in 1210, deWardroba in 1270, and deWarderoba in 1278.
Michael Wardrope was probably born in Scotland and received Virginia land grants in the 1660's.He received a royal grant from Queen Anne in King William County, Virginia in 1699.He was awarded an additional grant for fighting Indians in Amelia County, Virginia in 1708 and had later grants in Amelia County in 1712 and 1713.It is apparent that one of his sons was James Wardrope, who with Lawrence Washington and others of the Virginia gentry organized the Ohio Land Company of Virginia in 1748.It is generally agreed that Michael Wardrope was the ancestor of the Wardropes of Virginia, including Luke Wardrope (Waldrep).
Virginia records indicate there may have been two Michael Wardropes:
Michael, Sr. and Michael, Jr., and that Michael Wardrope, Sr. would be the immigrant ancestor having received grants in the 1660's and his son, Michael Wardrope, Jr. would then be the Indian fighter.
