Bruce I am a descendent of Frederick Waldon born Feb 1856 parents William and Ann. Frederick Waldon married Agnes Hearn in 1886 and there youngest son Harry born 30/4/1898 was my Grandfather.
I am also trying to trace a Joshua Waldon born 1835 who I believe went to Canada. He married Jane Chapple(Chappell) 22.4. 1855 in Bideford, Devon. I can trace him living with his family in the 1851 Census but haven't been able to trace him since his marriage on any of the Devon Census.
I am wondering if it is the same Joshua that I have found in the 1881 Canadian Census. The surname is spelt Waldan but the age and place of birth correspond. At this time he is listed as a widower with 9 children.
He was married at 20 so maybe it didn't last and he went to Canada where he remarried. I have also been told there were other Waldons who went to Canada.
Can you throw any light on this information.
Raewyn
