Hi
This concerns the mill at Victoria Harbor. My 3XGreat grandparents wer James Waldie, 1807-64, & Jessie Carruthers, 1812-68. They had 2 children, John Waldie, a popular name for this family, 1833-1907, and Agnes Waldie, 1835-1918. They came to Canada from Hawick in 1846, I think. James was a tailor. Agnes is my ancestor. The family lived in Wellington Square, now Burlington. John became a business person, the Old Atlas of the County of Halton shows the business Waldie and Kern. When the area became incororated as Burlington, John was the 1st Reeve.
Later he was an MP in Ottawa for the Reforn Party, which later was called the Liberals. John eventually took over the Victoria Harbor mill, and would have been the Waldie relative who hired your Waldies.
Hope I can share info with you.
