Walcutt Spelling

I have been working on the Walcutt genealogy since my aunt Suzie gave me the family Bible in 1956. At that time the family stories were that the Walcutt spelling came about by George Washington spelling the name wrong on William Walcutt's discharge papers in the Revolutionary War. This proved not to be the case.

Also it was family tradition that William's (1761-1833) family came from England and that one of his ancestors was Thomas Walcott who was hung for treason in the late 1600's. I'm still working on this problem.

I started a Walcutt Society newsletter in the 1970's and continued for several years. There were over 100 Walcutt's that received this newsletter and there was very little interest so the work has continued silently.

This forum was requested months ago and now it is a reality. The Walcutt family name traces back to around 18 different spellings.

Take advantage of this forum and ask away all the questions you have about the Walcutt's and maybe together we can expand our knowledge about our family roots.
