We have now had nine Walcotts participate in our Wolcott/Walcott DNA project, and have reached some tentative but highly probable conclusions based on the results: 1.The Shropshire Walcot family has an early ancestor with Celtic/Anglo-Saxon genes, but are not related to the Wolcott family, or to the other Walcotts we have tested. 2. The other Walcotts we have tested all show Nordic genetic origins, probably from Danish or Norman invaders of England in the 10th and 11th century. 3. The majority of our participants are descendants of William Walcott who immigrated to America in 1640. By trianglation we have identified his DNA with considerable accuracy. 4. Two other participants with Walcott ancestors traced back to England in the 1600s have DNA indicating they are probably related to each other and possibly related to William. Additional non-William participants would be helpful in clarifying this relationship. 5. We now have sufficient DNA data to tell people who do not know their Walcott ancestry whether they are descendants of William Walcott of Salem, the Shropshire Walcots, those Walcotts mentioned in 4, above, or Wolcotts whose spelling was changed to Walcott at some time in the past. 5.
