We have uncovered lots of interesting things in our Wolcott/Walcott DNA project. One thing is that there appears to have been three different families: the Wolcotts of Devon and Somerset; the Walcots of Shropshire, and the Walcotts of Eastern England, including William Walcott of Salem. Our current thinking, based solely on DNA evidence, is that he was not the William who was from Stokeinteignhead, Devon, and not the Newfoundland mariner, nor related to the Walcots of Shropshire. We now think he may be related to the Walcotts of Bedfordshire, London, and Barbados. More about our DNA project can be found at http://www.walcottfamily.com. We would like to get some DNA samples from other English Walcotts not descended from William of Salem to help us put this family together.
