I suspect the F. was for Fleming, James' mother's middle name, but that is only a guess.He was a carpenter and was b. 1799 in West Virginia, where his family settled about 1787, probably coming from Kent Co. Deleware.His father,Reuben, and Reuben's descendants used Wolcott, Wilcott, and Walcott spellings, so they may have been illiterate, which was common in those days.Reuben is sometimes said to be the son of Joseph Wolcott and Rachel Bowen of Kent Co. DE, but that seems to be all that anyone knows, and I find no proof of even that.I suspect they may have been part of the Maryland Wolcott family, but no one has been able to find evidence to support this or other descent.
