Hi...I just did some research on the Walbridges....not much...but some, in the Kalamazoo area.
David S.(Safford) Walbridge was born in VT in 1802 and came to the Kalamazoo area in the 1840s.He appears in the 1850 census in Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo.
One of his sons was there in Kalamazoo with him...Samuel E. (Elridge) Walridge (b Feb 15, 1826)
David Safford Walbridge b July 30, 1802 Bennington, Bennington, VT...parents David Walbridge and Isabella Brush (m Jane 16, 1792 Bennington, Vt)Isabella evidently died and the father, David remarried two more times...to Ruth Brush in 1807 in Bennington , VT and again to Eliza Taggart Oct 23, 1823 in Byron , Genessee NY)
Samuel Elridge Walbridge may have been the one who married Mary C. Beebe April 26,1848 in Erie, Erie PA.
David Safford Walbridge was active in the politics of early Michigan and has a small monument constructed in Kalamazoo to his honor. If you do a www.google.com search for David Walbridge Kalamazoo (those three words) , it will bring up several entries about him to read.
Also in the Kalamazoo area in 1850 was an Ellen Walbridge and a Betsey Walbridge.I haven't seen the microfilm entries of any of the 1850 Walbridge families.
Now, my interest is in an even earlier Walbridge in the Kalamazoo area...in 1835.The first name was not given...but he was mentioned in the same article (which I haven't seen yet) in a Kalamazoo newspaper which mentioned the surname BISSELL (also no first name given).I'm trying to find out more about them.It will be a while before I can get hold of copies of the article.
Hope the above info might help you....it's all I have
