In answering your question if two "l" and one "l" spelling of Walbridge have anything to do with one another, I believe so. My ancestor was Zebulon Walbridge (son of William, grandson of Henry) as cited in "Descendants of Henry Walbridge who married Anna Amos, December 25, 1688 in Preston Conn" by William Gedney Wallbridge of Litchfierld Conn:

"Zebulon as mentioned elsewhere, changed the spelling of his name, saying one "l" was enough......"

The family to that point had assumedly been going by the spelling of their name using two "l"s.
