A new auction was just listed 5/28/03 on eBay for a Walbridge/Wallbridge original family bible from the Norwich Connecticut area - Item # 3524754367 Here is item description-- Early BIBLE, WALBRIDGE GENEALOGY, FABULOUS!!! Welcome! The bidding is on a wonderful early Bible with one of the most extensive Family Genealogies I have seen. In side the front cover, in beautiful penmanship is "Henry T. Walbridge, Lansiingburgh July 1845" In different penmanship is "William Gedney Walbridge Nov. 1885" and in a third handwriting is "William Knickerbacher Walbridge" Written on a small card affixed to the inside of the front cover is "Dec. 1889, Having been convinced by my researches into the Family history and the records at Norwich, Conn., that the following is the original and correct spelling of the name I have decided to adopt it. W.G.Wallbridge", note that 2 Ls are used. In between the Old Testament and the New testament is a fabulous, very extensive Family Record of the Walbridge/Wallbridge family, Marriages, Births and Deaths. Four large pages are completely filled in with names dates and other statistics. The last column and a half is a marvelous short history of the Family that traces the family back four generations from 1784, so my guess is to about 1700. "in 1784 Zebulon Walbridge was restored by the N. York Legislature to all his rights, privileges and immunities as a citizen, had been deprived of them owing to his views and action in regards to War with Gt Britain..." it the goes on to trace the lineage from 4 generations behind Zebulon. In addition to the genealogy there is a Certificate of Marriage from 1881 for William Gedney Walbridge and Ester Odin Schaffer, in Philadelphia, Pa. And a photograph of the Grave Marker of Henry T. Walbridge and Esther Margaret, His Wife. The Bible itself is "The Holy Bible containing the Old And New Testaments: Translated out of the Original Tongues; and with the former Translations Diligently Compared and Revised. With Canne's Marginal References. Together with the Apocrypha and Concordance. To which are added, An Index, A Table of Texts, and what has never before been added, An Account of the Loves and Martyrdom of the Apostles and Evangelists. With Plates." Published in Hartford, by William Andrus, 1842 9 1/2" by 11 1/2" by 2 1/2" when closed. Condition is VG+, cover is lightly worn at the edges, Black with Gold Trim., There is foxing throughout the book, but most notable on the first several pages. This is a marvelous and rare Family Record. Notify Administrator about this message?
