Amanda Jane Waits (parents 1860 census had her named "Amanda E.") is the daughter of Jacob P. Waits and Mary E. Webb, and grandaughter of John C. Waits, Sr. & Martha "Patsey" Warbington.
Her parents married ca. 1849. Here are my notes on Jacob P. Waits:
"Forty" years old Jacob's farm (hh # 347-357, Twp. 6 Range 17) is in the Southern District of Lauderdale County, Mississippi on October 22, 1850. They have a one year old son, James. Jacob P.'s nearest neighbor is his half first cousin, Jacob B. Warbington, Jr. Neither Jacob nor Mary can read or write.
"Jacob Waits and Nimrod Busbee charged with Affray by Grand Jury - also Joseph Waits." [Book A, Lauderdale County, Mississippi Circuit Court Minutes - March Term 1851]
"Fifty" years old Jacob's household (# 82-82) is located in Centre Beat, P. O. Marion, Lauderdale County, Mississippi on June 22, 1860. He has personal property valued at $50. Jacob and Mary cannot read or write, and none of their school age children are listed as having been to school within the year. His brother, William, lives on a neighboring farm (hh # 84-84).
Amanda Jane Waits was not married when she had her son, Jacob Ellemander Waits, and his father remains unknown. Eventually Amanda married James H. Holloman 30 Sep 1881.
I have that Jacob Ellemander Waits married Lavada Viola Morris 2 Jul 1891 in New Augusta, Perry Co., MS. Their children were Lillie Lenora, Linnie Leona, James "Fred" Frederick, Jacob Lawrence, Virgal "Raz" Erastus, Ever "Eva" Ollie, Joseph Walter, and David Lester Waits. Which one of these children are you descended from?
I have a great deal of Waits/Waight information. I can take you back to John C.'s grandfather, John Waight, who came from England and died after 1768 in SC. John C.'s father was Samuel Waits, who was a pvt. in the Rev. War. Samuel died in Troup Co., GA 19 Apr 1836.
My husband has a double Waits/Warbington line. He descends from your John C.'s half-brother, James Waits & his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Warbington, and from Elizabeth's brother, Horatio B. Warbington, Sr.-----then Elizabeth & Horatio were half siblings to your Martha (Warbington) Waits.
