Hi, my name is Tim Horn and I grew up near Horn's Valley in Alabama spitting distance from all the places you guys are talking about, Ashland, Lineville, Randolph, etc. My line of Waits goes back to Samuel Waits of SC whose father John Waights came over from Whitshire England. Samuel had some brothers and those lines are your lines. Geographically Coleta (where I grew up) is next door to Horn's Valley and also adjacent to Chandler Springs, Clairmont Springs and all of these are between Talladega and Ashland. Part of the problem connecting the Waits brothers is the fact that they were already split out by the time the Census started in 1790. There is a Samuel Waits in SC in the 1790 census but in the 1810 census he is in Conecuh Co Alabama where his daughter Dorothy marries our Horn patriarch Joshua in 1819.

Also FYI the local Native Americans were Creek not Cherokee but that doesn't mean your ancestor wasn't Cherokee.
