HI! Phyllis Rennells referred me to you.

My grandfather, David Wahl, entered the US through Ellis Island on 6-8-1893. He settled in Newark NJ and later more of the family came over. My mom referred to her grandmother as Grossmutter which as you may know is the German for grandmother. I understand Grossmutter lived in Newark too. I found the note on the Ellis Island web site.

My grandmother was indeed Marian Manthey.

My grandfather was from Steinbach in Thuringia Germany. I have a copy of his marriage cert. with this on it. My wife and I found the town and drove through it after the Wall came down in 1985. It was in what had been East Germany.

I can remember my mom talking about "Uncle Adolph" who I believe lived in Rochester.
