Dear Susan,

After more than a year of intense communications with some descendants of Christian Wagoner, who died in Fulton Co (previously part of Bedford Co), PA on Jan 13, 1856 at 92 yrs, 7 mos, 3 days, I believe that he is the same as Christopher Wagner, b. Jun 10, 1763 in Alexandria Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ. This guy traveled to Frederick Co, MD with his parents John or Adam (possibly Johannes Adam) Wagner and Maria Sophia Apgar. Their he served in the German Regiment of the patriot forces from 1776-1779. His father died in 1779; his widowed mother remarried in 1781.

Christopher married Anna Catherine _____ in 1782. Shortly thereafter he moved to Bedford Co, PA. Apparently there his name became Christian Wagoner. He and Anna Catherine (his only known wife) had 2 daughters (Margaret and Sophia) and 2 sons (George W. and John). So it seems that this is likely not the father of your Elza Wagner.

Christian Wagoner had one brother, William (Wilhelm), b. abt 1761, who settled in Springfield Twp, Huntingdon Co, PA. He and his wife, Anna Maria Nied, had ten children, including a Christian Wagoner b. 1796. This Christian Wagoner married Mary Jefferies in abt 1817. They had 7 children. The name of their oldest, a son, b.abt. 1819 is unknown. Their youngest, a daughter b. abt 1840 was named Eliza. Could the unknown son, b. abt 1819 be your Elza?

Mike Apgar
