Peter or Petrus Wagner was born ca. 1825 in Prussia; emigrated to Dane County, WI before 1854. m. abt. 1850 to Anna Catherine Kargus or Kontor; d. bef. 1900 in Mitchell County, Iowa. The family lived near Stacyville. A very interesting marriage record shows sixty-five year old Peter Wagner of Osage, native of Germany, marrying on June 15, 1896 to Henriette Ludtke, also age sixty-five. Peter's parents are listed as Jacob Wagner and Katherena Ziax. It is possible that Peter married a second time after the death of Anna and did not want it known that he was over seventy years old. How many elderly men named Peter Wagner, born in Germany, could have resided in Osage at that particular time? The 1896 date corresponds with Anna's presumed death. The 1900 census was searched for Peter and Henriette, but they could not be found. This may turn out to be a very key find.

This family is not the Peter Wagner married to Louise Bilharz of Mitchell County. if you have information please write to me: spiritsouth@gmail.com
