Hi, I am one of the rare Waghers in country. The Wagher spelling did originate from the early Wagars of upstate NY. My line traces back to Philip Wagher, b 1792 d 1883.He fought in the war of 1812 and I believe received a land grant in Illinois as payment. He and wife Rosanna (Vincent) moved to Henry County, Illinois circa 1830s.Son Barney was born 1835, d 1902, he married Sarah _____, b 1842 d 1910. They had a son Victor, b 1877 d 1962, he married Mabel Stewart, b 1899 d 1995.Their son Stewart, my father was born in 1927.I was born in 1966.The Waghers have thus been in NW Illinois for over 160 years.I don't know if this is the Midwestern connection you were looking for. Would like to hear back sometime.
