Now here's another interesting familial tidbit that makes more sense after getting your information. Benjamin Waggaman b. abt 1831 in Vermillion County was enlisted in the Union army in civil war.
However, he deserted on the march from the Pea Ridge Battlefield in North West Arkansas into Missouri......interestingly enough, that would have been just a few short miles from where his sister and her family are found in the 1870 census.
So, I don't think it was a coincidence that he deserted at that location. But what happened to him after that? Did his family help hide him? Ben does not show up in any census after 1860.....
