Phyllis:

I found mention of Sarah J. Wafer in a couple of things people have sent to me. Dates and names differ, however:

Sarah J. Wafer, daughter of James Wafer and Sarah Elder, was born Feb. 7, 1828, in Illinois. She married Williamson Plant on March 31, 1853. You mentioned another name for a husband -- could she have been married more than once? I have two death dates for her: Feb. 27, 1914, or Feb. 11, 1887, in Greenville, Ill.

The James Wafer mentioned as her father was the son of Francis Wafer and Sarah Laughlin. Francis was the son of Francis Wafer and Mary McGoffin; Sarah was the daughter of John and Mary Laughlin.

If you think this is the right Sarah J., there is more information in these papers. It gets confusing because so many of the early Wafers named their sons James, Francis or Thomas and their daughters Mary, Nancy or Sicily.
