The early spelling of WERE/WEARE etc has its origins in North Devonshire, England, in the West Country. Geneologist largely agree that there are some 30 variations in the spellynge depending on the scribe at the time. The Rivere WYE in the WYE VALLEY is where this fishing-tribe began. with a separate history to the Scottish WEIR. The area of North Devon, Upper and Lower WEARE, the villages of WEARE and WEARE-GIFFORD are their ancient homes. Gravitating in time and wealth to BRISTOL CITY, and the immediate surrounding Counties. There is a wealth of information on these families. Meshek Weare president and govenor of New Hampshire, USA is one of these. Your varied spellings could easily be unique to America, very nice.
Gordon Weare, Weare Family Historian.
