I hope the following will be of some assistance to you:

On a tombstone in the cemetery in Old Bennington, Vt. just to the rear of the Old First Church:

In the memory of Elisha Nichols who died in April 1792, aged 38 years and Lucy Nichols, his consort, who died Aug. 1791 aged 43 years. This monument erected by their
affectionate daughter, Eunice Wadsworth.

From the Dewey Book by Marinus Dewey:
Eunice Nichols b. 1779 m. Romeo Wadsworth, a wealthy merchant who ran his own vessels to China, resided in New York and Canada.

My ancestor, Elisha Nichols of Bennington, Vt., married Lucy Dewey (widow of Henry Walbridge) and daughter of the Rev. Jedediah Dewey, the first Pastor of Bennington, Vt.

Their daughter, Eunice Nichols b. 5/31/1779 and d. 8/17/1809 married Romeo Wadsworth b. 4/21/1769 and d. 10/8/1850 m. 11/16/1801.

Romeo's parents were William Wadsworth and Mercy Clark.

Romeo and Eunice had a son William Romeo Wadsworth b.1807 and m. 1833. His other wife was Ann Margaret Fleming
b. 9/16/1817 in New Brunswick, N.J.

William Romeo b.1807 in New york City lived at 60 Wyckoff St., So. Brooklyn, N.Y. and was married to Viola Longworthy
in 1833.

You might try contacting Mary Moyer at mgmoyer@uno.com or
Debi Powell at djpwell621@bellsouth.net. Also David Earl Yerks at deyman@dc.rr.com

All efforts to ascertain the antecedants of Elisha Nichols have come to no avail.

James L. Nichols
