Rebecca Watkins was born about 1751-52 in Frederick County, Virginia, as the first child and daughter of Peter Watkins and Hannah ______. She traveled with her family to Berkeley County, South Carolina in about 1756-1757.

In about 1772, she gave birth to a daughter out of wedlock, of whom, she named Hannah Spencer, daughter of Samuel Spencer Jr., in Anson County, North Carolina, where Peter Watkins and his family were living at the time.

In about 1781 she married Joel Blackwell in Rutherford County, North Carolina as his 2nd wife, at which time he already had 7 children by his 1st wife Henrietta Byars, of whom, he had married in about 1764. Joel and Rebecca had 5 children between 1783 and 1793, making it impossible that Rebecca was born in the time period of 1731, as was the birth date of Thomas Watkins, the oldest child and son of Evan and Mary Watkins of Maidstone-on-the-Potomac, Frederick County, Virginia.

Rebecca died about 1800 and Joel Blackwell married as his 3rd wife, Sarah Ann Doggett in about 1800-1801 Rutherford County, North Carolina.

There were no Blackwell families in Frederick County, Virginia during the early to late 1700's.

Thomas Watkins and his wife Mary had one child that is known and that was a son Evan, born in the early 1750's and died 1772 in Frederick County, Virginia. Thomas Watkins died 1757-1763.

Sincerely, James
