It is really way past time to set the record straight about Armiger Wade Sr.'s wife. Her name was Dorothy, but her surname was NOT Moulson/Maulson/Mallson.
Armiger Wade was in England in 1642 when his son Armiger Jr. was born by wife "Dorethea."Edward Maulson was in Virginia as early as 1635.
I don't know where all this started that Dorothy was a Maulson, but is suspect it because of a one-time poor interpretation of the following record, which has not been corrected since:
“Mr. Robert Read, in right of his wife, Mary, dau. to Mr. Jno. Lilly; 305 of acs. in York Co., & Par.; beg. on S. side of the Back Cr., on W. side of Gwin’s Cr; to br. of Cheesman’s Cr., parting this & land of Mrs. Joane Wordley; along Thomas Wooton, to land of Argall Blackstone, dec’d; 20 Oct 1688.100 acs. granted Jno. Congdon, 17 Dec 1640, & assigned to Edward Mallson, 1 Feb 1643, & due sd. John Lilly as marrying with the heiress of sd. Mallson; 125 acs. granted Robert Lendall & George Pennerell, 29 Oct 1651 & by sd. Lendall sent over to sd. Malson, with consent of sd. Pennerell, 17 Dec 1656; 120 acs. now taken, due for trans. of 3 Negroes.”
The John Lilly who married "the heiress" of sd [Edward] Mallson was the immigrant John Lilly who died before 1646, and whose wife, Mary, married Edmund Chisman Sr.By being described as "the heiress" of Edward Maulson, it meant that she was the only surviving heir of Edward Maulson, i.e., there was no other son or daughter.
The Mary Lilly who married Robert Reade was the granddaughter, and only female descendant at that time of Mary (Maulson) Lilly-Chisman, who died 11 Dec 1678.
