Children of Asa Wade and Letitia of Gwinnett County, GA
On 20 Dec 1850 a land sale was made in Gwinnett County, GA in which ownership rights to land previously owned by Asa Wade(deceased) were sold TO Harris Wade of Cobb County, GA BY the following: Letitia Wade, Asa Wade, and Jesse Wade of Gwinnett County; John Wade of Marion County, AL; James Lawrence of Chatooga County, GA; and William Cupp of Walker County, GA.
In the 1850 US Census, Letitia was living with Asa Wade (Jr) in Gwinnett County; Jesse Wade was with his (2nd) wife (married 1849) and 7 children by his 1st wife (Polly Donaldson), who had died in 1848; Harris Wade was in Cobb County with his 1st wife and their children; Kizziah (Wade) Lawrence was with her husband James Lawrence and children in Chatooga County; and Mary (Wade) Cupp was with her husband, William Cupp in Walker County.John Wade has not been located in the 1850 Census of Marion County, AL, but "John A. Wade of Marion County" bought piblic lands there in 1857 and 1858.
Based on the ages in the various censuses, Kizziah was born abt 1801; Mary abt 1806; Asa, Jr. abt 1807; Harris abt 1815; and Jesse abt 1818.In the 1820 census for Gwinnett County:
James Lawrence (16-26) with female (16-26), no others
William Cupp (16-26) with female (16-26),no others
Asa Wade (45+) with female (45+), one male (10-16), three males (0-10), and one female (0-10).
The older female with Asa Wade was Letitia; the older minor male was Asa,Jr.; two of the younger males were Harris(5) and Jesse (2) and the other may have been John Wade. The female with James Larence was Kizziah (19); the female with William Cupp may have been either a) a 1st wife who died after 1830 before he remarried to Mary Wade, or b) Mary Wade (14?). If a) then the younger female with Asa could be Mary, although the age range is not right; if b) then who was the younger female with Asa?
In "History of Gwinnett County, GA, Vol. III", there is listed for 1836 a marriage of Elizabeth Wade and Barnett McCully. She might have been the daughter in one of the other Wade families in 1820 and 1830 Gwinnett, such as Henry Wade, or maybe she was a 3rd daughter of Asa and Letitia?
Just 11 days after the above referenced land sale, on 31 Dec 1850, there was another sale of ownership rights for the SAME land, to Asa and Harris Wade by William Wade of Gwinnett County, who was represented by an attorney/agent (i.e., "power of attorney"), for the amount of ONE DOLLAR.Was this William Wade another son of Asa and Letitia? What were the circumstances that required that an attorney/agent be used, and why were rights sold for only one dollar?
Any clarifying input will be appreciated.
