I hardly know where to begin this message.I am researching mainly the Mitchell family:specifically that of a John Mitchell, b 1814 in TN, d 1889 in MO.In 1840 this John Mitchell was in Conway County, Arkansas. On the same census page as John Mitchell are A. C. Gardiner, Calvin Wade, & John Wade. There have been numerous speculations as to the wife of John Mitchell.A family Bible that was in the family of one of John's sons showed John Mitchell's wife to be Margaret Say Gardiner. Some genealogists speculate that John Mitchell's wife's maiden name was Wade. Some speculate that while the wife's name was Gardiner, the wife's mother's maiden name was Wade.(A third group speculates that John Mitchell's wife's maiden name was Miller -- but that's a whole other story.)
I wonder if you might shed some light on any of this.
Also, I am wondering if the Wade family (or the Gardiner family) might have come with the Mitchells to Arkansas.I do not know exactly when the Mitchells arrived.Or perhaps you might know WHY they were in Arkansas by 1840.This I have never been able to figure out.
Re John Mitchell's arrival. As I noted above, he was in the Conway County, Arkansas 1840 census. And he had a son, James Mitchell, who was born in Arkansas in January 1840.The marriage date for John Mitchell and Margaret _____ is believed to be Feb 1839.If their families did not travel together to Arkansas, it seems likely that the Mitchells must have arrived in Arkansas prior to 1839.
Hoping that you might know more about the connections of the Mitchell, Wade, and Gardiner families.
