Williams Waid m FITCH Descendant
Williams Waid was one of 3 sons of Seth Waid who moved prob. from Ontario Co., NY to Crawford Co., PA abt. 1816 (the others were Seth II and Warner; sibs Ozial and Aresta or Arista remained in NY I am told).
Williams Waid m. Abi[gail] Skinner, b. 1800 in Vermont. As yet I have not determined which of several Jonathan Skinners was Abi's father, but her mother was Thankful Fitch, which links Williams Waid's and Abi's descendants (of whom I am one) to an eminent New England family.
Best known of the Fitches is the Rev. James Fitch b. England 1622 d. CT 1702, noted Puritan clergyman, co-founder of several CT towns (including Norwich and Lebanon, where he died) and his great-nephew Thomas Fitch, who altho' the author of a leading pamphlet against the Stamp Tax, felt constrained by his oath -- he was Royal governor of CT in the 1750s and 60s -- to enforce the tax anyway, for which he was ousted from office.
Thankful's line from Rev James is 1 Rev James and 2d wife Priscilla Mason > 2 Jeremiah > 3 Abner > 4 Jeremiah and > 5 Thankful.
Quite a number of other Fitches seem to have played significant roles in Ct. in colonial times; it's a family worth looking into.
