Charles “Don” Donald Waycaster

Charles “Don” Donald Waycaster, 63, of Fletcher, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 while at St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville, NC. Don was born in Mitchell County to the late Charles Merritt Waycaster and Edith Louise Hoppes Waycaster and then moved to the Bee Tree area of Swannanoa. He graduated from Owen High School and then moved to Georgia and attended college at Georgia Southern. He loved fishing and many outdoor activities such as, coon hunting with his father and his son. He had a great appreciation and love for the mountains he and his family lived in. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons. He loved muscle cars and a wide variety of music. He took great pride in a job well done when working as a drywall finisher. Many have said that don was the “hardest working man they had ever known.” Don loved his family very much. Even when he was sick he was concerned about his family.

Surviving are one son, Charles D. Waycaster, Jr.; two daughters, Donna Cody and Amy Hyatte; one brother, Richard Waycaster; two sisters, Jean Harrison and Margaret McFee; and six grandchildren, Ashley and AJ Sluder, Bobby and Hannah Cody, and Abigail and Madeline Waycaster.

Services were held 11am, Saturday, September 30, 2006, in the McCall Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Marion. Burial followed at Collis Cemetery in Spruce Pine*, NC. The family received friends from 6-8pm on Friday, September 29, 2006 at the funeral home.
