John Thomas Hart of MO and WA
PJ
My wife, Diessa Kennard Bruce, is a descendent of Serena Neal and James Jefferson Bell. My wife passed away in 2006 but I am still working on her family history.
I discovered Serena’s last name, who I call Syrena, from her obit in newton co, MO
THE NEWTON COUNTY NEWS
NEWTONIA, MISSOURI, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1896
Died, at her home two miles northeast of Newtonia, on Friday, February 14th, 1896, Mrs. J. J. Bell, aged 68 years. Deceased was an old citizen of this county, having moved her with her husband in the year 1867. Her maiden name was Syrena Neal. She was twice married. Her first husband was a Mr. Hart. She has two Hart children living, Mrs. Wilson and Thomas Hart, both living in the far west. She was married the second time to James J. Bell, who with four children, still survive her. The children are William Bell, Mrs. Hattie Hewlett, Frank Bell, and Mrs. J. W. West. She also leaves a number of grandchildren. She was a native of Tennessee but was married to J. J. Bell in Washington county, Arkansas. She had been a member of the Newtonia Baptist church for many years and lived a Christian life. She was a true mother and was honored and loved by all her children. She had been in feeble health for many years but bore her sufferings patiently. Funeral services were held from the Baptist church on Sunday at 11 A. M. Elder Winter Green, pastor of the church, conducting the funeral services. The remains were interred in the Odd Fellows cemetery near Newtonia. There was a large number of sympathizing friends in attendance at the funeral and many followed the hearse to the cemetery. The bereaved have the sincere sympathy of the whole community. In this some of life's sorest trials; plus loss of a loving wife and devoted mother.
Also Goodspeed’s of Newton, MO has an article on JJ Bell and Syrena, from there I got that Mr Hart’s first name was George. I am away from home at this time and do not have that with me but when I do I will pass it along.
I also have a Goodspeed entry for John Thomas Hart while he was in MO and several Census entry for the “far west” as mentioned in Syrena’s obit.
