Barb; Many of the famlies that came to Washington came from Tennessee first. My Hart family was from Hawkins and Greene County Tennessee at the time Davie Crockett's family was there. Some of them migrated north to Kentucky about the time of the Civil War.
You have named towns that my family farmed and had friends. My grandparents owned a home in Oaksdale when they retired from farming sight after WW2. Just before that; they lived at the base of Steptoe Butte. My father rode a saddle horse as he called it to school in Thorton where he finished 8th grade about. My grandmother Rhoda Hart used to play music for barn dances and some live radio in the 20s and 30s with a man named Robert Hall. My grandmother played banjo while Bob played fiddle. Robert Hall and his wife Mime lived in Oaksale while their son Dewey (I think that is how it is spelled) and his wife Maxine lived in Thorton, Alamota and Colfax. The Hall family; I was told came from Kentucky or Tennesse.
What other family names are you looking for in the area?
I have some photos I can share with you; please feel free to e-mail me directly at wes_hart@hotmail.com and can compair notes if any of this rings a bell.
Wes Hart
