Barb;
I am not if it is any help to you but right after WW2 my parents worked for a man named Fordie Smith in Whitman County. Fordie was perhaps a little older then my father Willard Hart that was born in 1920 in Spring Valley WA near Rosalia. In 1898; Mm grandfather Emby L Hart joined a group of 14 other people (mostly family) from Whitley and Knox County Kentucky to establish farms in Whitman County.
Many of them settled in or near Rosalia. When my father and his brothers were growing up; I know that my family had a farm at the base of Steptoe Butte.
So more people might see it; I am posting in this forum a reprint of the March 08, 1898 news story from Louisville KY Courier-Journal that does mention another group of Kentuckians that arrived in Whitman County twelve years earler.
Wes Hart
