My records show a brief entry on this family - very brief, but it may help you in your search.

On a listing of the past postmasters in Unity, Pacific County, it lists John Hunter being appointed on 4 Aug 1873.

In an article by the editor of Colonel Hunter's book "Reminiscences of an Old Timer", the editor states: "It is now Colonel [George] Hunter's intention to travel East in order to disseminate information about the great northwest country of the Pacific Coast, a country which he helped to build up and for which he predicts a glorious future." The portion in the article reads: "Somewhere in his searching, Dad had met Colonel George Hunter, an Indian fighter and scout, who told him about a brother, John, having a ranch near Ilwaco, on the Wallicut River, and also of the climate..." [The time period was fall of 1890.]

Hope this tidbit helps.
