Looking for any information, regarding the following family surnames listed above, in and around Riverdale, Raymond or Willapa, Pacific County, Washington.
In 1900, in California, Lydia Perry naturalized, from Finland. She met or married Johan Emil Malmberg or Momberg of Finland. On February 29, 1908, in Eureka, Humboldt Valley, Ca., Lydia had a daughter named Sylvia Johanna Malmberg. By the time of Sylvia's birth, Johan seems to have disappeared? Now, by 1910-13, Lydia married Axel V. Laine of Raymond, Washington. Lydia and Axel Laine had two children Hazel and Beluah-sp?, a.k.a. Lula. I found Hazel living, in Seattle, in 1937, living on 9th Ave, Apt. 404. Eventually, Hazel married a Mr. Nordquist. They had one child, who's living, and I can't disclose that information. Later, on December 11, 1921, Axel V. Laine died of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, and he is buried at Fern Hill Cemetary, in Menlo, Wa. Next, Lydia married John J. Kristo, a Longshoresman, from Aberdeen, Wa., on 2 Sep. 1924. They lived, in Riverdale, just over the bridge, from Raymond, at 1127 Gaylord St. The house is still there, and it guarded by a ferocious dog! Between 1924-5, John Kristo, adopted all three girls, I believe. On April 16, 1926, Sylvia the oldest daughter, married Harry Buell Varney of L.A., Ca. Sylvia's marriage certificate lists her, as Sylvia Kristo, but, her birth certificates list her as Sylvia Johanna Malmberg'? February 3, 1927, Sylvia had their first child, Ace Varney, in South Bend, and by September 29th of 1928, Sylvia's listed, by the Bureau of Vital Statistics, as being stranguled to death. Her husband, Harry B. Varney, announced his guilt to the local authorities, after the incident occured, in the Washington Hotel, which has since, burned down. It was located next to the local fire station, in Raymond. According to the November 16, 1928 Raymond Herald, Harry a.k.a. "Doc" Varney was freed, after only 50 minutes of jury deliberation. The Prosecuting Attorney, Mr. Herman Murray signed Sylvia's Death Certificate, as homicidal strangulation, without even a autospsy performed. In contrast the local mortician testified to marks, on Sylvia's body that indicated the use of hyperdermic needles used to administer opiates, but without an autopsy, who could ever be sure. After the alleged crime, Harry had stuck Sylvia, with a needle, checking for a responsive reaction, shortly after-Sylvia fell faint and prior to notifying the police of her death. Sylvia is buried, in the Fern Hill Cemetary, in Menlo, Wa., in Lot 45. I have not located her plot, as of yet. After checking the 1930 Raymond City, Pacific County, Wa. Census, John, Lydia, and Hazel Kristo were still living, in Riverdale. I'm not sure, what happened to Lula? Hopefully, someone can help. In addition, I checked the Washington State Death Index, and it appears John J. and Lydia Kristo died, in Seattle. Lydia died, March 17, 1955, in S. King County and John J. died April 4, 1952, in Seattle. Some of the Kristo's friends included:
Mr. and Mrs. Waldo of Portland, Oregon
Mrs. Elizabeth Walters/Pacific County, Wa.
Mr. Mrs. Cunningham/Pacific County, Wa.
Mrs. Marie Crane/Pacific County, Wa.
Mrs. Hilma Ogren/Pacific County, Wa.
Miss Helia Koski/Pacific County, Wa.
Mr. Paul Maltson/Pacific County, Wa.
Some of this information is speclative/fact, and I would appreciate any assistance, regarding any information, related to my research. Sylvia (Malmberg/Kristo) and Harry Varney were my Ggrandparents. Sylvia and Harry's son learned of all this, 60 years after the fact, and he has, since, past. I just love geneology and history, and I would just like to close this page, in history for documentation purposes. Sincerely, Jason
