Sidney Arnold Barron was born in 1917 in Toronto, to his English mother and a Belgian soldier billeted with her parents. He was raised from birth by his aunt Florence and her husband, and grew up knowing his biological mother as "Aunt Daisy." Barron did not discover the truth about his mother until adulthood.
