Tom, I don't know if anyone mentioned this to you, but the town of Dalhart, TX was not founded until 1901.

I did find a James E. Lawley, age 8, in Van Zandt Co., TX in 1880, father E.W., but these folks were in Indian Territory in 1900, including James E., wife Maud, and dtr. Willie May.
