Charles Richard Carter, b. ca. 1860, IN>KN>WA

My great grandfather, C.R. Carter, provided birthdates that would range from 1858 to 1860, but always stated that his birthplace was Indiana. His mother was named Carrie.

Charles fathered two families, beginning his first with Lizzie Carey (born 1860, in Illinois of parents also born there). Their first few children were born in Kansas, but I'm not yet sure where: Enola G. (F, b. 1882 in Kansas), Charley C. (b. 1886, Kansas), Floyd M. (b. 1888, Kansas), Annie M. (b. 1889/90, Washington), Mary M. (the later Lena, b. 1893, Washington), and Freddie V. (b. 1897, Washington). Another daughter, Florence, was born in Washington in 1900.

Charles married a second time on Dec. 20, 1905, in Sunnyside, WA, to my great grandmother, Alice Anna Rodgers (Rogers), of Bartholemew County, IN. She helped raise the younger children of the first marriage, and bore five children of her own: Robert Cleveland (b. 1907), Paul (b. 1909), Ruth Alice (b. 1910), Carrie Hope (b. 1912), and James Virgil (b. 1914). The family lived near Zillah, WA, until after 1920. By 1926, Charles and Alice had divorced, but he remained in Zillah for some time after that.

Anybody with connections to Charles' first family and clues to his parents or his Indiana origins, please contact me.
