Cemetery: Willamette National Cemetery Please click on the links above for locations, times, maps, and directions. Robert Lee Bob Stapleford, passed away October 13, 2005 at Kadlec Medical Center, in Richland, Washington. He was 75 years old. Bob was born to Edmond and Verdie Madonna (Allen) Stapleford on August 22, 1930, in Hamilton, Kansas. When he was about 11 years old, he moved with his family to Roseburg, Oregon, where he lived until he joined the Navy. Bob and his wife, Pat, would have celebrated their 25th anniversary in December of this year. On retirement in January, they were planning to move to Portland, OR, to be close to family. Bob served in the Navy for nine years and gives the Navy credit for the education and training he needed for his further employment as an electrical technician. Bob worked as a journeyman electrician until 1983 and then he joined the US Army Corp of Engineers. While serving with the Corp, he and Pat lived in Saudi Arabia for four and one-half years, Germany for four years, and Colorado Springs for five years, and Japan for two years. For the last seven years he worked at the Umatilla Army Depot. Upon his retirement, he had a combined length of 30 years service for the government. He was presented with a United States flag that had been flown over the Capitol Building. Bob became a Mason in Boise, Idaho, and went through chairs in Redding, California. Bob was an avid reader, and loved history. This love he attributed to his mother, Madonna, who read daily to Bob and his sister. When there was no other book, she would read to them from the Bible. His wife, Pat, Kennewick, WA, his 95 year-old mother, Madonnna, and sister, Verdie, both of Medford, Oregon, survive Bob. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 29, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Center, 9353 W. Clearwater Ave, Kennewick, WA. Inurnment will be at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery.
