I have the following Vermont census records:

1820 - John Muckler in Franklin County, Johnson Township.

1830 - John Muckler and John Muckler Jr. in Franklin Co., Johnson Township.

1840 - John Muckler and John Muckler Jr. in Lamoille County, Johnson Township (I'm assuming that Johnson was "rezoned" from Franklin to Lamoille).
[side-note: the name after John Muckler is "William Brown". 4 names after is "And..? (I wish these enumerators wouldn't have written in such flowery cursive) Muckler". He and the woman I'm assuming is his wife were born between 1810-1820. Bear with me, this becomes important soon.]

1850 - John Muckler Jr is listed with his growing family. Unfortunately, he's listed as "Mucklier". John Muckler (also listed as Mucklier) is living with a William Brown, 2 houses away from John Jr. He is 85 years old and was born in "Mafs" - which I assume is Massachusetts.

2 houses from them is "Thankful Mucklier", female, born in 1812. My supposition is that Thankful is the wife of "And..?". "And..?" is dead or gone, since he's not listed. One of the sons, Ira, is 6 years old. An Ira Muckler, age 26 turns up in the 1870 IA census, living with John Muckler (Jr). This leads me to believe that John Muckler Sr. is related to And..? Muckler -- maybe father and son? Where William Brown fits into all of this, I'm not sure, unless that was John Sr's wife's family?

By the 1860 census, the Mucklers were gone from VT (except for a "Lydia Muckler" who was living with the Mann family in Johnson. Interestingly enough, a couple of Mann children end up living in IA with John Muckler, Jr. in the 1870 IA census, so I think Lydia is related, too, maybe another child of John Sr.

Since I can't find John Muckler (Sr.) after the 1850 census, I assume that he died sometime between 1850-1860. He may have been buried in VT -- I don't know.

This is probably much more than you wanted to know!
