John Cook born about 1782 possibly in Vermont

I'm doing family research on James Martin Cook born in Albany, NY. He had a brother named Henry Powell Cook who was born in 1824 in Herkimer, NY. They had a father named John Cook who was born about 1872. His place of birth varies...Connecticut or Vermont. No idea who the mother/wife was except that she was born in England. Any information would be appreciated and I'll share what I have found. Thanks!!
