Maxfield / Indian marriage, late 1700s

My ancestor, Obadiah Maxfield, supposedly married an Indian woman in the late 1700s. He lived in Franklin Co. (Franklin), and his first child was born in Milton in 1801. I don't expect to find any record of a marriage or birth from that time, but does anyone know what tribe of Indians this gggg-grandmother could have been from? Is there any on-line source where I could learn about the Indians in Vermont in the late 1700s? Thank you!
