RUSSEL - Danville, Caledonia, Vermont
Posted by: Nick Mizaur Date: December 26, 2001 at 17:43:35

I am searching for information about Jonathan W. Russel. Jonathan was born in about 1797 in Vermont (place unknown). It is believed that Jonathan's middle name is Wilkins.

Two possible Russells are candidates to be Jonathan's father: Joanthan Russel III (b. Danvers, MA - abt. 1780) and Daniel Russel, Jr. (b. Danvers, MA - abt. 1766. There is circumstantial evidence supporting a claim for each.

In 1814, Jonathan enlisted in the Vermont Militia under Captain Solomon Langmaid. Two affavits by local Danville residents (John Carr and Isaac Stanton)attest to Jonathan's service in the Battle of Plattburgh. These affavaits also state that Jonathan was a resident of Danville, VT in 1814.

I am trying to identify Jonathan's parents. I know that several Russells lived in Danville during the late 1700s to the early 1800s. Jonathan would have been about 17 when he is said to have lived in Danville. Perhaps his father is neither of the two ment cited above but instead a different Russell residing in Danville at the time.

Any information shared on Jonathan W. Russel would certainly be appreciated. I would be glad to share the information that I have with anyone interested.
