John Rooney age 76, of Beech St, retired farmer and lumberman, died last evening at 9 o clock after a long period of general illess in which for the last few months he had been confined to his bed. He was born at Chrysostone Canada February 18, 1859, son of Patrick Rooney and Jane McGonigle Rooney.
He moved to Woodford Vermont in 1880 and two years later married Nellis Wentworth of that town, September 28, 1882. While in Woodford he held the positions of town clerk and treasurer, and in addition to various other offices that of selectman. He represented Woodford in the legislatures in 1888 and 1904.
Mr Rooney moved to Bennington in 1907 and became soon afterwards a charter member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks as well as Bennington County Deputy Sheriff for many years.
