GGrandmother Gertrude (?) Either Lawrence or Fisher
Posted by: Warren White (ID *****2952) Date: September 08, 2012 at 17:13:51

I am VERY interested in your help in determining exactly who my GGrandmother is. I have her maiden name as either Gertrude E. Fisher (her son listed her maiden name as Fisher in his application for marriage) or Gertrude E. Lawrence (the name I have always been told). She was born in August 1846 in Vergennes, Addison, VT. I have census records following her marriage to my G Grandfather (Wilson Daniel STAPLIN) indicating she was born in VT, and both of her parents were born in New York.

She died in Elgin Illinois 2 August 1909. The newspaper record of her death indicated she was the GGGranddaughter of General Joseph Warren of Bunker Hill fame, and could trace her lineage to the WINSLOW family of the Mayflower. (This explains a personal mystery of mine....why did my Grandmother give my mother the middle name of Winslow?) This article also said she was born in Whalensburg VT, but I can't find such a place.

Any help from anyone?

Thank you so very much.
